The morning session focused on getting to know the Cities of Learning Network better, covering the following resources:
  • Network Values; Learn about the guiding principles of the Network
  • Locations; See where Cities of Learning is active worldwide
  • Communication; Find the Cities of Learning Network's official social media and communication channels.
  • Community calls;
  • Cities of learning network member; How to become an official member of the Cities of Learning Network
  • Costs; Information regarding platform costs
  • and Badge Strategy of Cities of Learning.

Creating Badges

To learn how to design Quality Open Badges and Badge Systems we highly recommend completing this Learning Playlist. Each activity in this playlist is a small module bit to help you grasp the basics about Open badges, including how to create a single badge, and how to combine them into a larger badge system. Completing the playlist badge is one of the stepping stones toward your organisation achieving the Quality Label for Badge-based recognition.

Issuing Badges

The session was spent running the 'Issue Badges Simulation Game,to experience the practical reality of managing technology, assess evidence and give supportive feedback.
  • Role swap: Everyone practiced being both the Issuer/Assessor and the Learner/Receiver during two fast-paced rounds to build a complete understanding of the issuing process.
  • Three issuing methods: You actively tested the different methods for issuing badges: QR Code Issuance + Peer Check + Activity Organiser Check.

This day clearly showed that quality in badging is rooted in the initial design but is equally dependent on the operational flow. This brings us to the Quality Label for Badge Recognition Criteria, which must be considered when designing, issuing, assessing, and implementing badging within your organisation.

Next Up: Building the System

Tomorrow, Day 4: Badging in Practice, we will take all these individual badge experiences and build them into a cohesive structure.
